We are looking for creative, organized, reliable multi-taskers who are dedicated to social justice and helping members of underserved communities in education, entrepreneurship and health. Interns develop in-depth knowledge of the inner workings of a non-profit organization and fundamental processes such as program implementation,marketing, and fundraising. Our interns do vital work that is necessary for the running of the organization.

 

TITLE: Communications Intern

REPORTS TO: Director of Programs

ORGANZIATION: Unity Fellowship Breaking Ground (Breaking Ground NYC)

OBJECTIVE:

Unity Fellowship Breaking Ground seeks a dynamic, self-starter to assist with our communications and online organizing efforts. This unpaid internship is an excellent opportunity to experience various aspects of communications while working for a grassroots nonprofit organization.

SKILLS:

       Experience working with low-income and/or immigrant communities of color

       Possess excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills

       Ability to communicate in a professional manner with community contacts

       Ability to work well independently, and within a team

       Commitment to cultural sensitivity and respect for differences

       Commitment to the continuous improvement of service quality and the organization's mission

       Cultural competence to work in a multicultural, multi-faith environment

RESPONSIBILITES:

   Update and maintain our social media presence, including daily monitoring, posting, scheduling and reporting    Facebook updates

       Assist in writing and managing e-blasts and e-newsletters

       Draft news releases, media alerts and other stories

       Design flyers, graphics, e-vites and other marketing material

       Update the organization's website regularly

       Update organization database

       Collaborate with staff on new ideas, directions, and tools for communications and online organizing tools

QUALIFICATIONS:

       Firm grasp of available tools and platforms in the social media space

       Working toward a college degree (junior level and up), preferably in a related field  (e.g., English, Marketing/Communications, Advertising or Public Relations)

       Previous internship or related experience in communications or organizing a plus

       Understanding of the basic principles of communications

       Must be computer literate (working knowledge of word processing, PowerPoint, Excel).

       Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop highly desired.

       Knowledge of HTML, website content management and graphic design a plus

TITLE: Development/Fundraising Intern

REPORTS TO: CEO

RESPONSIBILITES:

       Build upon (UF) Breaking Ground’s fundraising plan to increase available funds to support programs. This includes coming up with new ideas and avenues for fundraising, notably online, to increase long-term financial stability

       Research grant opportunities and work with team to write and submit grant proposals

       Launch online crowd funding campaigns to raise funds for the program (e.g. kick starter, indiegogo, causevox)

       Researching and connecting with other organizations/partners/influencers to further increase

QUALIFICATIONS:

       Must be at least college sophomore

       Interest in nonprofits and fundraising/development work

       Good written and oral communication skills

       Must have experience with social media

       Experience with fundraising is preferred

       Reliable and self-motivated

       Good time management skills and detail-oriented

 

All internships are unpaid - however is an opportunity to gain experience helping us break the cycle of poverty for thousands of New York City under-resourced young adults. We will work with all colleges and universities to give you academic credit for your experience.
